 Detailed Care Guide

  •  Lighting: This is the most critical factor for achieving the plant's namesake orange color. Under medium to high light, the leaves will develop vibrant orange, pink, and red hues . In lower light, the plant will survive but will likely remain green and may become leggy .

  •  Water Parameters: It is adaptable to a wide range of conditions. The plant thrives in a temperature range of 22-28°C  and can tolerate a pH from slightly acidic to slightly alkaline (5.0-8.0) . It shows a preference for softer water but is not particularly demanding .

  •  Nutrition & Substrate: While not mandatory, a nutrient-rich substrate is highly beneficial for robust root growth and overall health . Regular dosing with a quality liquid fertilizer, especially one rich in iron, is key to intensifying the orange coloration . Without it, leaves may appear pale .

  •  CO₂ InjectionCO₂ injection (targeting 20-30 mg/l) is not required for the plant to grow, making it suitable for low-tech setups . However, injecting CO₂ will significantly enhance its growth rate, make the plant denser and bushier, and most importantly, help produce the most vivid orange colors .

 Appearance & Aquascaping Tips

  • 👀 Visual Characteristics: When grown submerged, 'Orange Juice' develops slender, narrow leaves along upright stems . Under optimal conditions, the entire plant—from leaf tip to stem—can display a rich spectrum of colors from warm orange to deep red or pink . Grown emersed (above water), the leaves are rounder .

  •  Trimming and Propagation: This plant has a fast growth rate . To maintain a dense, bushy appearance and prevent the lower leaves from dying off due to lack of light, regular trimming is essential . Simply cut the top portion of the stem and replant it into the substrate. The original stem will then sprout new side shoots, creating a fuller look .

  •  Placement in the Aquarium: Its vibrant color makes it a fantastic contrast plant against greenery . Plant it in dense groups in the midground or background to create a striking focal point . The leaves are somewhat delicate, so handle with care during planting .
