Riccardia chamedryfolia — Mini Pellia / Coral Moss
One of the most sought-after aquatic mosses in the planted tank hobby, Riccardia chamedryfolia — commonly known as Mini Pellia or Coral Moss — is prized for its dense, branching texture and rich emerald-green colour. Unlike true mosses, Riccardia is a liverwort, growing in compact, coral-like tufts that attach beautifully to hardscape. A favourite for iwagumi layouts, nano tanks, and detailed aquascapes where fine texture and depth are essential.

Care & Placement
Riccardia grows best when tied or glued to rocks, driftwood, or mesh using thread or aquarium-safe gel adhesive. It does not root into substrate and should not be buried. Growth is slow but steady under stable conditions — patience rewards with a lush, textured carpet across hardscape surfaces.
- Attachment: Tie to hardscape with cotton thread or use gel-type cyanoacrylate adhesive
- Trimming: Trim regularly to maintain shape and prevent shading of lower growth
- CO₂: Injection significantly improves growth rate and colour intensity
- Fertilisation: Benefits from liquid micronutrient dosing; low demand overall
- Algae sensitivity: Slow growth makes it susceptible to algae — maintain stable parameters and good flow
Aquascape Use
Riccardia is a staple in high-detail aquascapes. Its fine, branching structure adds natural depth and contrast when draped over stones or wood. Particularly effective in nano tanks, shrimp biotopes, and Nature Aquarium-style layouts where texture and scale are critical design elements.
