Red zebra cichlid

The Red Zebra Cichlid displays a vivid, uniform red to orange-red colouration across the entire body — one of the most saturated and eye-catching red colourations in the Mbuna world. Females are typically orange to orange-red, while males can display blue to blue-grey colouration in some populations. The vivid red colouration stands out dramatically in any Malawi aquarium, creating a bold, fiery focal point.

Diet & Feeding

Compatibility & Tank Mates

Best kept in a Lake Malawi Mbuna community. Keep in groups with multiple females per male to spread aggression. Avoid mixing with very peaceful species.

Breeding

Maternal mouthbrooders. Females incubate eggs in their mouths for 3–4 weeks.
