Appearance

The Red Tail Rock Goby displays a warm tan to olive body with intricate brown and red-orange spotting and banding, culminating in a vivid red-orange caudal fin that gives this fish its common name. Water Parameters & Tank Setup

  • Temperature: 65 – 75°F (18 – 24°C) — a cool-water species
  • pH: 7.0 – 8.0
  • General Hardness (GH): 8 – 20 dGH
  • Tank Size: Minimum 20 gallons
  • Flow: Moderate to strong — they thrive in well-oxygenated, flowing water
  • Substrate: Smooth river gravel or sand with flat rocks and caves
  • Decor: Plenty of rocks, caves, and hiding spots for territory establishment

Compatibility

Best kept with cool-water fish of similar size. Avoid housing with very small fish or shrimp. Males are territorial with each other — provide ample space and visual barriers if keeping multiple individuals.

The Red Tail Rock Goby is a bold and beautiful fish that brings vivid colour and engaging behaviour to any cool-water aquarium. A wonderful choice for goby enthusiasts and biotope aquarium keepers alike.
