Red Belted Goby (Sicyopus zosterophorus) is a special goby that is rarely seen in the hobby. It has wide but patchy distribution. It can be found on oceania islands up to southern part of China. Our specimens originated from Papua New Guinea. Mature male has half red body with black “belt” on it.

Habitat: Living in small clear river stream where it often sticks itself into smooth surface rock or hiding below it. It is mostly found on high altitude place.

Characteristic: The Red Belted Goby is peaceful bottom dweller that need a strong current tank and very sensitive to ammonia. Providing it with rocks, soft substrate, good filtration will make it comfortable. Male will display vivid coloration, especially in mating period. Female tends to be pale in color.

Diet: bloodworm, artemia, daphnia and tubifex

Suitable tank mates: Peaceful rasboras, Neocardina and Caridina shrimp, small peaceful tetra and chocolate gourami.
Unsuitable tank mates: Any aggressive fish and large fish
