Peppered Corydoras (Corydoras paleatus) — The Hardy, Beloved Bottom Dweller
The Peppered Corydoras (Corydoras paleatus) is one of the most popular and enduring catfish in the freshwater hobby — and for good reason. Hardy, peaceful, and endlessly active, this charming bottom dweller from the rivers of South America is a staple of the community aquarium and a natural fit for the planted tank. Its mottled grey-green and black “peppered” pattern gives it a subtle, natural beauty that complements any aquascape.
The Ideal Substrate Cleaner
Peppered Corydoras are constantly on the move, sifting through the substrate with their sensitive barbels in search of food. This natural foraging behaviour makes them excellent at picking up uneaten food and organic debris from the tank floor — helping to keep the substrate clean and reducing the risk of ammonia spikes from decomposing matter. They are best kept in groups where their social, shoaling nature truly shines.

Aquascape Compatibility
Peppered Corydoras are completely plant-safe and peaceful with virtually all community fish. An excellent choice for South American biotope setups, Nature Aquarium layouts, and any community tank that needs an active, sociable bottom dweller.
Hardy, sociable, and always busy — the Peppered Corydoras is the bottom dweller every planted tank deserves.
