Vivid, tiny, and absolutely electric — the Neon Green Rasbora (Microdevario kubotai), also known as the Neon Dwarf Rasbora or Kubotai Rasbora, is one of the most brilliantly coloured nano fish in the freshwater hobby. Its intense neon green-yellow body seems to glow from within, creating a stunning living light show in any planted aquarium.

Appearance

The Neon Green Rasbora has a semi-transparent body suffused with an intense neon yellow-green iridescence that is unlike almost any other freshwater fish. The colour is brightest along the lateral line and appears to glow under aquarium lighting. A school of 15 or more of these tiny fish shimmering through a planted tank is one of the most breathtaking sights in the nano aquarium hobby.

Water Parameters & Tank Setup

  • Temperature: 68 – 79°F (20 – 26°C)
  • pH: 6.0 – 7.5
  • General Hardness (GH): 1 – 10 dGH
  • Tank Size: Minimum 10 gallons for a school of 10+
  • Lighting: Moderate to bright — their neon colour truly shines under good lighting
  • Substrate: Dark substrate makes their neon green colouration pop dramatically
  • Plants & Decor: Dense planting with open swimming areas; Java moss, floating plants, and stem plants are ideal

Diet & Feeding

Neon Green Rasboras are micro-predators requiring very small foods:

  • Staple: High-quality micro pellets or nano fish flakes
  • Treats: Baby brine shrimp, micro worms, daphnia, and cyclops
  • Avoid: Foods too large for their tiny mouths

Feed small amounts 2–3 times daily.

Compatibility & Tank Mates

Best kept in groups of 10 or more. Ideal tank mates include:

  • Other nano fish (Chili Rasboras, Celestial Pearl Danios, Ember Tetras)
  • Dwarf shrimp (Neocaridina, Caridina) — safe with adults
  • Pygmy Corydoras
  • Small snails

Avoid any fish large enough to eat them.

Breeding

Neon Green Rasboras are egg scatterers and will spawn among fine-leaved plants or moss. A separate breeding tank with Java moss is recommended as parents may eat eggs. Fry are very small — feed infusoria or liquid fry food initially.

The Neon Green Rasbora is a nano aquarium superstar — impossibly small, impossibly bright, and endlessly captivating. Add a large school to your planted tank and watch them transform it into a living, glowing masterpiece.
