Plant Overview
Limnophila aromatica "Mini" (also known as Kalimantan Mini) is a compact dwarf variety of the classic Limnophila aromatica, believed to originate from Borneo. Smaller in stature but equally striking, it delivers the same signature purple-red coloration in a form perfectly suited to nano tanks and detailed aquascapes.

Appearance
Narrow, serrated leaves grow in delicate whorls of 2–6 around each stem, typically 1–2.5 cm long. Under high light, the leaf tops transform into rich shades of brown-red to deep purple, while the midribs and stems retain a contrasting light green — a stunning two-tone effect. Tiny silvery spots (stomata) add a subtle shimmer to the foliage. Like its larger relative, the plant carries a pleasant aromatic scent when grown emersed.
Care Guide
- Lighting: High intensity is essential to unlock the plant's signature red and purple hues. Under moderate light, it will remain green but continue to grow.
- CO2: Strongly recommended. CO2 injection significantly improves growth rate, compactness, and coloration.
- Nutrients: Provide a complete macro and micronutrient regimen. Iron (Fe) supplementation is key to maintaining vivid coloration. A nutrient-rich substrate is beneficial.
- Maintenance: Trim regularly to encourage dense, bushy branching. Replant cuttings to fill in gaps and create a lush grouping.
Aquascaping Uses
- Ideal for foreground and midground color accents in standard aquariums.
- A standout choice for nano tanks where full-size stem plants would overwhelm the layout.
- Well-suited to Dutch-style aquascapes — plant in tight groups to create vivid "plant streets" of color.
- Groups of 5–7 stems planted with slight spacing will bush out beautifully with regular trimming.
