The Scratched Inpa Tetra (Inpaichthys sp.) is a seldom-seen and highly collectible tetra from the blackwater rivers of South America. A close relative of the popular Royal Tetra (Inpaichthys kerri), this undescribed species displays its own distinctive patterning — featuring a bold lateral stripe and subtle iridescent body markings that shimmer under aquarium lighting. A true rarity for the discerning hobbyist and species collector.

Appearance

The Scratched Inpa Tetra features a sleek, laterally compressed body with a prominent dark lateral stripe and fine iridescent scaling that catches the light beautifully. Males typically display more vivid colouration, with blue and violet tones emerging under optimal conditions. Like all Inpaichthys, it is most striking when kept in a well-conditioned blackwater setup with soft lighting and dark substrate.

• Best kept in schools of 8 or more for natural schooling behaviour
• Peaceful with other small tetras, rasboras, corydoras, and dwarf cichlids
