Hygrophila Ringens (syn. Hygrophila lancea sp. 'Araguaia') is a rare and elegant stem plant from the Araguaia River region of Brazil. Distinguished by its narrow, lance-shaped leaves with a striking two-toned appearance — deep green on top and rich purple-violet on the underside — it adds a sophisticated splash of colour and fine texture to any planted aquascape.
Under high light and CO₂, the purple colouration intensifies dramatically, making this plant a standout accent in both Nature Aquarium and Dutch-style layouts. Its compact, upright growth habit makes it ideal for creating vertical lines and contrast in the midground or background.
Care Guide
- Difficulty: Easy to Moderate
- Lighting: Medium to High (enhances purple colouration)
- CO₂: Recommended for best colour and compact growth
- Temperature: 20–28°C (68–82°F)
- pH: 6.0–7.5
- Growth Rate: Moderate
- Placement: Midground to Background
Regular trimming keeps growth compact and encourages bushy side shoots. Replant cuttings to create a fuller, denser grouping. Dose with iron and micronutrients to maintain vibrant leaf colouration.
Sold as a stem cutting or tissue culture portion. Live plant — colour intensity may vary with lighting and water parameters.
