Horn Wood for Natural Aquarium Aquascapes

Horn Wood brings organic texture and distinctive character to your aquarium. Its irregular contours and natural openings create a focal point for planted layouts while providing surfaces for mosses, epiphytes, and grazing biofilm. Each piece is naturally different, giving your aquascape its own shape and personality.

Build a Landscape with Depth and Character

Position Horn Wood among stones for a rugged riverbank effect, or soften its outline with Java moss, Anubias, and Bucephalandra. Shrimp can explore its textured surfaces, while thoughtfully arranged openings and shaded areas add cover to the layout. Choose a size that complements your tank rather than crowding its swimming space.

Preparation & Care

  • Product type: Natural wood for aquarium hardscaping.
  • Size options: Super Small, Small, Medium, Large, Extra Large, and 2 Extra Large. Size names are selection categories, not exact measurements.
  • Before use: Rinse thoroughly with clean water and remove any loose debris. Do not use soap or household cleaning products.
  • Soaking: Pre-soak in a separate container as needed. Natural wood may initially float; secure it safely until waterlogged.
  • Tannins: Wood may release tannins that tint the water amber. Pre-soaking and regular water changes can help reduce the tint.
  • Initial biofilm: A pale film may develop on newly submerged wood. This is common; gently brush or siphon it away if desired.
  • Natural variation: Shape, colour, openings, and proportions vary between pieces. Wood naturally weathers over time.

Aquascaping & Livestock Compatibility

Use Horn Wood in freshwater planted aquariums and shrimp-focused layouts, matching the piece to your tank dimensions and livestock. Check openings and gaps to ensure fish cannot become trapped, and keep the arrangement stable. Attach rhizome plants to the surface without burying their rhizomes, and leave room for maintenance and water circulation.

Natural texture, individual character, and a foundation for your next aquascape.
