Ginga Rubra Endler Guppy — A Fiery Red Jewel of the Livebearer World

Bold, fiery, and impossible to ignore, the Ginga Rubra Endler Guppy is one of the most striking and sought-after Endler strains in the hobby. Ginga Rubra — meaning "Red Galaxy" — lives up to its name with an intense, deep red body colouration that blazes under aquarium lighting, often accented with iridescent highlights and bold patterning that varies beautifully from fish to fish.

Compact, active, and hardy, Ginga Rubra Endlers carry all the charm and ease of care that makes Endler’s livebearers so beloved — but with a colour intensity that rivals even the most elaborate fancy guppy strains. Mixed grading means each fish is unique, offering a natural and dynamic display in any planted aquarium.

Tank & Setup Tips

Ginga Rubra Endlers are hardy and adaptable, thriving in a wide range of setups. A tank of at least 10 gallons is ideal for a small group. They love a mix of open swimming space and planted areas — fine-leaved plants, java moss, and floating cover provide security and give fry places to hide. Good filtration and regular water changes keep their vivid red colouration at its most intense.

Maintain a female-to-male ratio of at least 2:1 to prevent males from over-pursuing individual females. A tight-fitting lid is recommended as Endlers are occasional jumpers.

Feeding

Omnivorous and unfussy eaters. Accept high-quality micro pellets, crushed flakes, and frozen or live foods such as baby brine shrimp, daphnia, and micro worms. A varied, protein-rich diet with some plant-based foods (spirulina) enhances and deepens the red colouration. Feed small amounts 2–3 times daily.

Compatible Tank Mates

Excellent community fish for nano and planted aquariums. Ideal tank mates include other small livebearers, nano tetras (ember, chili rasbora), pygmy corydoras, and peaceful dwarf shrimp. Avoid fin-nipping species and any fish large enough to predate them.

Breeding

Prolific livebearers that breed readily and frequently in captivity. Females give birth to free-swimming fry every 3–5 weeks. Floating plants or a breeding box give fry the best chance of survival in a community tank. The Ginga Rubra colour traits are heritable and can be selectively bred to intensify over generations.
