Appearance

Males are spectacular — displaying a brilliant iridescent blue body that shimmers with an almost neon intensity, contrasted by vivid red to orange-red fins. Females are more subdued with a silver-blue body and yellow-tinted fins, but still attractive in a mixed school. Males display and flare to each other constantly, intensifying their colours in a dazzling show. A school of Dwarf Neon Rainbowfish is one of the most visually stunning sights in the planted aquarium hobby.

Diet & Feeding

• Staple: High-quality flake food or small pellets
• Treats: Frozen bloodworms, brine shrimp, daphnia, and micro worms

Feed small amounts 2–3 times daily.

Compatibility & Tank Mates

Best kept in groups of 8 or more. Excellent community fish. Good tank mates include tetras, rasboras, Corydoras, livebearers, and dwarf cichlids. Avoid very small nano fish that may be outcompeted for food, and aggressive species.

Breeding

Dwarf Neon Rainbowfish are egg depositors that scatter eggs among fine-leaved plants or a spawning mop. Eggs hatch in 7–10 days. Fry are small and require infusoria or liquid fry food initially, graduating to baby brine shrimp.
