Drape fin barb

Appearance

The Drape Fin Barb has a silver to pale gold body with subtle dark markings and a distinctive dark spot near the base of the tail. The male's most remarkable feature is his elongated dorsal fin — the front rays extend dramatically upward and then drape downward, creating a flowing, sail-like appearance that is unique among barbs. Under good aquarium lighting, their scales have a soft iridescent sheen that adds to their quiet elegance.

Best kept in groups of 8 or more. Peaceful and well-suited to nano community tanks. Good tank mates include small tetras, rasboras, Corydoras, dwarf shrimp (with caution), and other peaceful nano species. Avoid boisterous or fin-nipping fish that may damage the male's distinctive dorsal fin.

Breeding

Drape Fin Barbs are egg scatterers. They spawn among fine-leaved plants and will eat their own eggs. A separate breeding tank with Java moss is recommended. Fry are tiny and require infusoria or liquid fry food initially.
