Tank & Setup Tips

Endler guppies are hardy and adaptable, thriving in a wide range of setups. A tank of at least 10 gallons is suitable for a small group. They appreciate a mix of open swimming space and planted areas — fine-leaved plants and floating cover provide security and give fry places to hide. Good filtration and regular water changes keep their colours vivid and their fins in top condition.

Keep the ratio of females to males at 2:1 or higher to prevent males from over-pursuing individual females. A tight-fitting lid is recommended as they can occasionally jump.

Feeding

Omnivorous and easy to feed. Accept high-quality micro pellets, crushed flakes, and frozen or live foods such as baby brine shrimp, daphnia, and micro worms. A varied diet enhances the Japan Blue iridescence and red colouration. Feed small amounts 2–3 times daily.

Compatible Tank Mates

Excellent community fish. Ideal tank mates include other small livebearers, nano tetras, small rasboras, pygmy corydoras, and peaceful dwarf shrimp. Avoid fin-nipping species that may target the double sword tail extensions, and large fish that may predate them.

Breeding

Prolific livebearers that breed readily in captivity. Females give birth to free-swimming fry every 3–5 weeks. Floating plants or a breeding box give fry the best chance of survival in a community tank. The Japan Blue and double sword traits are heritable and can be selectively bred.
