Appearance
The Blue Humphead Cichlid displays a uniform, vivid electric blue to blue-grey colouration across the entire body, with a distinctive pronounced nuchal hump on the forehead that develops as the fish matures — most prominent in dominant males. The combination of the vivid blue colouration and the distinctive hump gives this fish its unmistakable, dolphin-like profile. The hump size increases with age and dominance, making mature males truly impressive specimens.

Diet & Feeding

- Treats: Frozen brine shrimp, krill, and daphnia
- Note: Avoid high-protein meaty foods — prone to Malawi Bloat
Feed 2–3 times daily.
Compatibility & Tank Mates
One of the most peaceful large Malawi cichlids. Best kept with other large, peaceful Lake Malawi haplochromine cichlids. Avoid aggressive Mbuna that may bully them. Often seen following other cichlids to catch disturbed invertebrates in the wild.
Breeding
Maternal mouthbrooders. Females incubate eggs in their mouths for 3–4 weeks. Fry are released as fully formed juveniles.
