A true collector’s gem that commands attention in any nano aquascape.

Appearance

The Variegated Marble displays tiny, oval to slightly elongated leaves with stunning white, cream, and pale green marbling against a deep green background. The variegation pattern is irregular and unique to each leaf, creating a naturally marbled effect that is both beautiful and unpredictable. The miniature pygmaea size makes each individual leaf a tiny masterpiece, and a cluster of these plants creates a breathtaking, jewel-like carpet effect in nano aquariums and detailed foreground plantings.

Water Parameters & Care

  • Temperature: 72 – 80°F (22 – 27°C)
  • pH: 5.0 – 7.0 (soft, slightly acidic water preferred)
  • General Hardness (GH): 1 – 10 dGH
  • Lighting: Low to moderate — moderate lighting enhances variegation
  • CO₂: Recommended for best growth and variegation
  • Fertiliser: Regular liquid fertiliser with micronutrients is important for maintaining variegation

Planting & Placement

Never bury the rhizome in substrate — attach to small pieces of driftwood, rocks, or fine mesh using fishing line, cotton thread, or aquarium-safe glue. Its tiny size makes it ideal for nano aquariums, foreground focal points, and detailed hardscape arrangements.

Compatibility

Compatible with all freshwater fish and invertebrates. Particularly well-suited to shrimp tanks. Maintain stable water parameters and moderate lighting to preserve variegation and minimize algae.

Propagation

Divide the rhizome with a clean, sharp blade, ensuring each section has at least 2–3 leaves. Growth is very slow — patience is rewarded with a truly spectacular plant.

Bucephalandra pygmaea sp. Variegated Marble is a rare collector’s treasure — tiny, marbled, and endlessly beautiful. A true centrepiece for the nano aquarium enthusiast and a crown jewel of any Bucephalandra collection.
