Appearance
The Golden Nana cultivar displays compact, oval leaves in a warm golden-yellow to lime-green colour that glows beautifully under aquarium lighting. New leaves often emerge with a more intense golden hue that gradually deepens as they mature. The small, tidy growth habit and warm colouration make this cultivar a standout accent plant in any aquascape, particularly when contrasted against darker green plants or placed against dark driftwood and substrate.
Water Parameters & Care
- Temperature: 72 – 82°F (22 – 28°C)
- pH: 6.0 – 8.0
- General Hardness (GH): 3 – 20 dGH
- Lighting: Low to moderate — moderate lighting enhances the golden colouration
- CO₂: Not required
- Fertiliser: Benefits from occasional liquid fertiliser to maintain vibrant leaf colour
Planting & Placement
Never bury the rhizome in substrate — attach to driftwood or rocks using fishing line, cotton thread, or aquarium-safe glue. Its compact size and warm golden colouration make it ideal for foreground and midground placement, or as a bright accent plant on small pieces of driftwood in nano and planted aquariums.
Compatibility
Compatible with all freshwater fish and invertebrates. Thick leaves resist most herbivorous fish. Algae can develop on older leaves — Otocinclus, Amano shrimp, and Nerite snails are excellent companions for algae control.
Propagation
Divide the rhizome with a clean, sharp blade, ensuring each section has at least 2–3 leaves. Attach new sections to driftwood or rock and allow to establish.
Anubias barteri var. nana ‘Golden’ is a warm and beautiful cultivar that brings a luminous, golden glow to any aquascape. Easy to keep, virtually indestructible, and always eye-catching — a wonderful addition to any planted tank.
