Essentially a staple tetra to the aquarium trade. This hardy and easy to care for tetra are best in shoals/schools of 10+ for them to display a schooling or shoaling reaction.
Recommended tank is is dependant on your surface area.
Long and short tanks like 20Gallon longs or larger is suggested.
Is possible to keep them in smaller tanks like 10Gallons, however keep in mind the stocking amount that can fit comfortably inside a 10Gallon.
For cardinal tetras, they do appreciate more plants in their system than opposed to no plants.
Keep in mind, all tetras are micropedators!
Can they be kept with shrimps? Yes but adults only and they will likely eat some of your babies/all of your baby shrimplets if there is not enough plant cover for the shrimps!
