Appearance

Bucephalandra sp. Green Broad displays broad, oval to slightly elongated leaves in a rich, deep green with a subtle blue-green iridescent sheen that shimmers beautifully under aquarium lighting. The leaf surface has a slightly wavy or undulating texture, and the margins may be gently ruffled. New leaves often emerge with a reddish or bronze tint before maturing to deep green. The plant grows along a creeping rhizome, similar to Anubias, and develops into a lush, spreading clump over time.

Water Parameters & Care

  • Temperature: 72 – 82°F (22 – 28°C)
  • pH: 5.0 – 7.5
  • General Hardness (GH): 1 – 15 dGH
  • Lighting: Low to moderate — thrives in low light; high light can cause algae on leaves
  • CO₂: Not required, but benefits from CO₂ injection for faster growth
  • Fertiliser: Benefits from regular liquid fertiliser, particularly micronutrients

Planting & Placement

Never bury the rhizome in substrate — attach to driftwood or rocks using fishing line, cotton thread, or aquarium-safe glue. Ideal for foreground to midground placement in planted aquariums, nano tanks, and detailed aquascapes. Also suitable for paludariums and terrariums in emersed conditions.

Compatibility

Compatible with all freshwater fish and invertebrates. Safe for shrimp tanks. Algae can develop on older leaves in high-light conditions — maintain moderate lighting and good water flow to minimize algae growth.

Propagation

Divide the rhizome with a clean, sharp blade, ensuring each section has at least 2–3 leaves. Attach new sections to driftwood or rock and allow to establish. New leaves emerge slowly from the growing tip.

Bucephalandra sp. Green Broad is a beautiful, low-maintenance plant that brings lush Bornean beauty and subtle iridescence to any aquascape. Hardy, adaptable, and endlessly rewarding — a perfect choice for planted tank enthusiasts of all levels.
