Appearance
Bucephalandra Brownie Neo produces compact, slightly elongated leaves in warm shades of brown, copper, and bronze, often with a gentle blue or green iridescent shimmer across the leaf surface. The colouration shifts subtly depending on lighting angle and intensity, giving the plant a living, jewel-like quality that is deeply satisfying to observe up close. New leaves frequently emerge in brighter, more vivid tones before deepening as they mature. Small white to pale purple flowers may occasionally appear at the water surface, adding a delicate seasonal charm.
Water Parameters & Care
- Temperature: 72 – 82°F (22 – 28°C)
- pH: 6.0 – 7.5
- General Hardness (GH): 3 – 15 dGH
- Lighting: Low to moderate — warm tones are most vivid under quality LED lighting
- CO₂: Not required, but beneficial for improved growth rate
- Fertiliser: Benefits from occasional liquid micronutrients; does not require substrate feeding
Planting & Placement
Never bury the rhizome in substrate — attach to driftwood, rocks, or other hardscape using fishing line, cotton thread, or aquarium-safe glue. The rhizome will anchor itself naturally over time. Ideal for detailed foreground and midground hardscape compositions in nano tanks and larger aquascapes. Allow adequate spacing between plants to appreciate each individual rosette.
Compatibility
Compatible with all freshwater fish and invertebrates. Exceptionally well-suited to shrimp tanks, where the warm copper and brown tones create a beautiful contrast against neocaridina and caridina shrimp. Avoid housing with large herbivorous fish that may graze on the leaves. Pairs beautifully with mosses, Anubias nana varieties, and other Bucephalandra cultivars for a rich, layered hardscape composition.
Bucephalandra Brownie Neo is a warm, understated, and deeply rewarding plant for collectors and aquascapers who appreciate natural beauty in its most refined form. Slow to grow, but every new leaf is worth the wait.
