Why Tissue Culture?

Tissue culture plants are propagated in sterile laboratory conditions, making them completely free of algae, snails, parasites, and pathogens. This makes them the safest choice for shrimp tanks, sensitive fish communities, and established planted aquariums where introducing pests would be a serious concern.

Appearance

Brownie Ghost is defined by its deep, dark olive-brown to near-black leaves with a striking silver-blue iridescent sheen that catches and refracts light in a way few aquatic plants can match. The leaf surface has a subtle, wavy texture and the edges are gently undulate, adding further visual interest. Under quality aquarium lighting, the ghostly shimmer intensifies, making this cultivar one of the most visually captivating Bucephalandra available. Small white flowers may occasionally appear at the water surface.

Water Parameters & Care

  • Temperature: 72 – 82°F (22 – 28°C)
  • pH: 6.0 – 7.5
  • General Hardness (GH): 3 – 15 dGH
  • Lighting: Low to moderate — iridescence is most visible under quality LED lighting
  • CO₂: Not required, but beneficial for improved growth rate
  • Fertiliser: Benefits from occasional liquid micronutrients; does not require substrate feeding

Planting & Placement

Rinse the tissue culture gel from the roots before planting. Never bury the rhizome in substrate — attach to driftwood, rocks, or other hardscape using fishing line, cotton thread, or aquarium-safe glue. The rhizome will anchor itself over time. Ideal for detailed foreground and midground hardscape work in nano tanks and larger aquascapes alike.

Compatibility

Compatible with all freshwater fish and invertebrates. Exceptionally well-suited to shrimp tanks, where the iridescent leaves provide a stunning backdrop for neocaridina and caridina shrimp. Avoid housing with large herbivorous fish that may graze on the leaves. Pairs beautifully with mosses, Anubias, and other Bucephalandra cultivars for a rich, layered hardscape composition.

Bucephalandra Brownie Ghost TC is a rare and breathtaking plant that rewards patient aquascapers with one of the most unique visual effects in the freshwater hobby. Slow to grow but impossible to overlook — a crown jewel for any serious planted tank collection.
