Anubias nana sp. Godzilla

Appearance

The Godzilla cultivar is immediately recognizable by its extraordinarily large, broad, and deeply textured leaves that can grow to several times the size of standard Anubias nana leaves. The leaf surface is thick, leathery, and often deeply ridged or corrugated, giving each leaf a rugged, prehistoric quality that perfectly suits its monstrous namesake. The deep, glossy green colouration and massive leaf size make this cultivar one of the most visually impactful Anubias available — a true statement plant.

Planting & Placement

Never bury the rhizome in substrate — attach to large pieces of driftwood or rocks using fishing line, cotton thread, or aquarium-safe glue. Best placed in the midground to background of large aquariums where its impressive leaf size can be fully appreciated as a dramatic focal point.

Compatibility

Compatible with all freshwater fish and invertebrates. Extremely thick, leathery leaves resist even the most determined herbivorous fish. Algae can develop on older leaves — Otocinclus, Amano shrimp, and Nerite snails are excellent companions for algae control.

Propagation

Divide the rhizome with a clean, sharp blade, ensuring each section has at least 2–3 leaves. Attach new sections to driftwood or rock and allow to establish. Growth is slow but the results are spectacular.
