Anubias barteri var. glabra, commonly sold as Anubias minima, is a slow-growing aquarium plant with elongated green leaves and a sturdy rhizome. Its narrower foliage adds contrasting texture to planted freshwater aquariums and looks especially natural attached to driftwood or rock.
Plant details
- Name: Anubias barteri var. glabra (minima)
- Growth habit: Slow-growing rhizome plant
- Placement: Attached to driftwood or rock; position according to plant size
- Lighting: Low to moderate
- CO₂: Not essential; stable supplementation can support growth
Planting and care
Secure the plant to hardscape with aquarium-safe plant glue or thread. Keep the rhizome exposed above the substrate to help prevent rot; roots may grow into the substrate or grip nearby surfaces.
Provide stable water conditions, gentle circulation and balanced nutrients. Avoid excessive lighting, which can encourage algae on the slow-growing leaves. Trim damaged leaves near their base without cutting into the rhizome.
Propagation
Mature plants can be divided by carefully cutting the rhizome into healthy sections, each retaining several leaves and roots.
Please note
Plant size, leaf shape and colour naturally vary with growing conditions. Newly introduced plants may need time to adapt to your aquarium. The name “minima” is used in the aquarium trade for this plant.
