Appearance
The Yellow-Tailed Acei displays a deep blue to blue-purple body with a vivid yellow to orange-yellow caudal fin — the bold colour contrast that makes this species immediately recognizable and highly attractive. Both males and females display similar colouration, though males are typically more intensely coloured. The vivid yellow tail against the deep blue body creates a striking, graphic colour combination that stands out in any Malawi aquarium.

Maternal mouthbrooders. Females incubate eggs in their mouths for 3–4 weeks.
