Water Parameters & Tank Setup
- Temperature: 72 – 82°F (22 – 28°C)
- pH: 7.0 – 8.0
- General Hardness (GH): 6 – 20 dGH
- Tank Size: Minimum 10 gallons for a group of 8+
- Lighting: Moderate to bright — brings out their iridescent blue colouration
- Substrate: Dark substrate enhances their vivid colours
- Plants & Decor: Floating plants, Java moss, and fine-leaved stem plants for a natural feel and spawning sites
Diet & Feeding
Daisy's Ricefish are surface and mid-water feeders:
- Staple: High-quality nano fish flakes or micro pellets
- Treats: Baby brine shrimp, daphnia, micro worms, and mosquito larvae
Feed small amounts 2–3 times daily.
Compatibility & Tank Mates
Peaceful and well-suited to nano community tanks. Good tank mates include:
- Other small ricefish and medaka varieties
- Nano fish (Chili Rasboras, Ember Tetras, Pygmy Corydoras)
- Neocaridina dwarf shrimp
- Small snails
Avoid housing with larger or boisterous fish that may outcompete them.
Breeding
Daisy's Ricefish breed readily in a well-maintained aquarium. Females carry fertilized egg clusters attached to their belly before depositing them on fine-leaved plants or moss. Eggs hatch in 10–14 days. Fry are tiny — feed infusoria or liquid fry food initially, then graduate to baby brine shrimp.
Daisy's Ricefish is a rare and beautiful nano fish that rewards its keeper with stunning colour and lively, social behaviour. A true collector's species that deserves a place in every planted nano aquarium.
