Appearance
Bucephalandra sp. Royale Red displays oval to slightly elongated leaves in a rich, warm red to burgundy colouration, often with a subtle iridescent sheen that adds depth and luminosity. New leaves emerge with a particularly vivid red colouration that may deepen to burgundy as they mature. The warm red tones contrast beautifully with the predominantly green plants in a typical aquascape, making the Royale Red a natural focal point and accent plant. Under good aquarium lighting, the red colouration appears rich and jewel-like.
Water Parameters & Care
- Temperature: 72 – 82°F (22 – 28°C)
- pH: 5.0 – 7.5
- General Hardness (GH): 1 – 15 dGH
- Lighting: Low to moderate — moderate lighting enhances and maintains the red colouration
- CO₂: Not required, but CO₂ injection helps maintain vibrant red colouration
- Fertiliser: Regular liquid fertiliser with micronutrients; potassium and iron supplementation helps maintain red colouration
Planting & Placement
Never bury the rhizome in substrate — attach to driftwood or rocks using fishing line, cotton thread, or aquarium-safe glue. Best placed as a warm red accent in the foreground to midground, where its rich colouration creates a stunning contrast with surrounding green plants.
Compatibility
Compatible with all freshwater fish and invertebrates. Safe for shrimp tanks. Maintain moderate lighting and good water flow to minimize algae growth on leaves.
Propagation
Divide the rhizome with a clean, sharp blade, ensuring each section has at least 2–3 leaves. Attach new sections to driftwood or rock and allow to establish.
Bucephalandra sp. Royale Red is a regal and warm-toned plant that brings rich colour and royal elegance to any aquascape. Hardy, adaptable, and endlessly beautiful — a must-have for collectors and aquascapers seeking warm colour in their planted tanks.
