Bucephalandra sp. Kedagang Mini Round

 Origin and Appearance

• Origin: This plant is an epiphyte endemic to the island of Borneo in Indonesia . Its name reflects both its origin in the Kedagang region and its compact size.

• Distinctive Look: As the name suggests, this is a smaller version of the standard Bucephalandra Kedagang Round, featuring narrower and smaller leaves . It's prized for its dark green leaves that can develop stunning bluish, purplish, or reddish iridescent undertones under proper LED lighting . The leaves are quite small, typically reaching only 1-3 inches in size .

 Care and Growing Conditions

This plant is known for being relatively easy to care for, making it suitable for both beginners and experienced hobbyists .

• Placement: As an epiphyte, it should not be planted in the substrate. Instead, attach it to hardscape like driftwood or rocks using super glue or thread. The rhizome (the horizontal stem) must remain exposed; burying it will cause the plant to rot and die .

• Ideal Aquarium Placement: Due to its petite size, it's perfect for the foreground of aquascapes, especially in nano aquariums .

• Lighting: It thrives under low to medium light. Higher light can speed up growth but may also increase the risk of algae .

• Water Parameters: It is adaptable to a range of stable conditions:

  • Temperature: 72° - 82°F (22° - 28°C) .

  • pH: 5.5 - 7.5 .

• CO2 and Fertilization: CO2 injection is not required but is highly recommended as it will promote faster, more robust growth and better coloration . A regular fertilization routine will also keep the plant healthy and vibrant .

• Growth Rate: This plant has a slow growth rate .

 Propagation

Propagation is straightforward and is done by rhizome division. Simply use sharp scissors to cut a portion of the rhizome that has a few leaves and its own root system, and then attach this new piece to another location in your aquarium .
